A: Yes. Visitors are welcome to stop in, observe, play casual games, or join unrated events.
Do I need to register in advance?
You do not need to register in advance for casual play. You can register on-site the day of the event for tournaments, but pre-registration is encouraged.
Do I need to be a member to attend?
A: No. Guests are always welcome to attend, play, or join unrated events. Membership is only required for rated tournaments.
How much is membership?
A: $15 per year, renewed each January. Prorated for new members joining mid-year.
Is USCF membership required for rated tournament play?
A: Yes, USCF membership is required to participate in rated events.
Do I need my own equipment?
A: No—boards, sets, clocks, and scoresheets are all provided.
What should I bring or wear?
A: Nothing is required—equipment is provided, though you’re welcome to bring your own. There’s no dress code; casual, family-friendly attire is fine (no profanity or inflammatory messaging).
Are kids welcome?
A: Absolutely. We strongly encourage young players to participate and grow through chess.
Do I need to be an experienced player?
A: Not at all. Players of all skill levels are welcome.
What kinds of tournaments do you run?
A: We host classical, rapid, and blitz events using Swiss and quad formats.
Is there an entry fee for tournaments?
A: Entry fees are typically $10–$20 for rated events, helping support operations and prize funds. Unrated casual play is always free.
Is food or drink allowed?
A: Yes. Light refreshments are provided free of charge. Guests are also welcome to bring their own non-alcoholic refreshments. Alcohol isn't permitted.
